A Big Thank you

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to all those in Charlton who so generously gave money with which to renew the heating in the church and also to have all the windows replaced by professional glaziers, who are experts in leaded windows.

Thank you everybody.

Denis Blake.

Charlton tornado?

T'was an event the like of which, had never before been witnessed in the village.

Shortly before noon on 3rd November 2009, could a Tornado have swept down Lower Road?

While the urban dwellers of Romsey and Twyford (Link to Romsey Advertiser story) may have grabbed the headlines; a trail of destruction that included uprooted trees, lost tiles and airbourne trampolines could be proof that it was Charlton All Saints that first experienced a tornado 'touchdown'.

One villager, who fearing subsequent press interest, didn't want to be identified said; 'I watched the roof of my shed fly over my fence and into my neighbours garden'.

Another, clearly traumatised by the resulting devastation, stated 'No sorry,I missed it, I was at work. You know I was at work. Are you actually recording this?'

The result of this once in a lifetime event was a trail of destruction and a powercut in south Charlton that lasted for over 4 hours.

One winner, however from all the devastation was the village Bonfire team who enjoyed a bumper harvest the following weekend.

Will the events of the 3rd ever be repeated?

.... This reporter, thinks not.
